Francia, who was Selena's date to the evening, spoke about the kidney transplant, explaining: "It was so positive for our friendship". "Seeing all these women come up here tonight and say these handsome speeches with their awards is so inspiring", she told the crowd, then paying tribute to those who have helped her get to that point. "Um yeah I am bawling my eyes out", while another person added: "Francia and Selena [are] warriors, who only deserve the best, and who are always strong!"

In her acceptance speech, pop star said, "I've never felt this proud to be a woman in this industry than I do today". She continued, "Thank you for all of you who inspired so many girls who feel they don't have a voice".
