Every six months since then, four consecutive presidents - Democratic and Republican (including Trump himself) - have signed such waivers. Trump signed the waiver at the last deadline in June, but the White House made clear he still meant to move the embassy.

The officials, who weren't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity, said the outlines of Trump's plan emerged from a meeting of his top national security advisers at the White House on Monday.

President Trump is expected next month to once again delay the decision to move the USA embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which was a major campaign promise.

Recognizing Jerusalem as "undivided" would likely dash Palestinian hopes of establishing in East Jerusalem the capital of their hoped-for future state, and could upend the White House's current attempts to revive the stalled peace process.

US President Donald Trump is seemingly closer than ever to announcing that the American Embassy in Israel will move to Jerusalem, a statement that could stoke tensions in the region.

"No decision has been made on that matter yet", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said on Thursday.

Vice President Mike Pence said earlier this week that Mr Trump is actively considering "when and how" to move the embassy to Jerusalem.

The Trump administration has begun notifying US embassies overseas about the plan so envoys can inform their host governments and prepare for possible protests. A number of other presidents similarly campaigned on a promise to move the embassy but reneged in office.

New reports on Thursday (30 November) suggested that the president, instead of committing to the full move, could simply declare Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, a declaration that would still be highly charged.

After a lengthy back and forth at the White House meeting, Trump and his inner circle appeared to accept those concerns but insisted that the president had to demonstrate his stated commitment to move the embassy, the officials said.

Palestinian leaders, Arab governments and Western allies have long urged Trump not to proceed with the embassy relocation, which would go against decades of USA policy by granting de facto US recognition of Israel's claim to all of Jerusalem as its capital.

Diplomatic missions around the Muslim world were reportedly told to be wary of possible protests next week when an announcement on the embassy and Israeli capital is likely to come.

Fizdale wasn't given much of a chance to show his talent, either, as he only coached for 101 games. Fizdale, a widely respected coach around the league, was in just his second season on the job.
