Obama trumps Trump in Twitter Top 10 of 2017

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the "most tweeted-about world leader" after United States President Donald Trump, according to annual data released by the Twitter.

President Donald Trump prides himself on being able to communicate with the American people directly through his Twitter account, but when it comes to resonating on that platform, former President Barack Obama still had an edge in 2017.

Twitter revealed the year's most liked and retweeted tweets on Tuesday, reflecting how a nation bitterly divided between Republicans and Democrats is likewise split on social media.

No tweets by President Trump made Twitter's list of the year's most retweeted posts.

He also came in No. 1 for top tweeted US elected officials, with Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan taking second and third.

President Barack Obama, with 1.7 million retweets in August, was second, posting, "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion".

The same Twitter post was the second most re-tweeted of the year, behind a tweet from a teenager trying to win a year's supply of chicken nuggets from fast food chain Wendy's.

The tweet received 1.7 million retweets and 4.6 million likes.

Google spat with Amazon heats up
The bickering between Google and Amazon has been going on several years as they have ratcheted up the competition with each other. But Amazon says that the company is being spiteful and was limiting what products were able to connect to Google's video service.

Two other tweets posted by Obama also featured in the top 10 - both posted in January as his term in office came to an end. My last ask is the same as my first.

Other posts that made the 2017 most retweeted list include one from Ariana Grande following the attack in Manchester, England.

Meanwhile, the band Linkin Park had the sixth-most retweeted tweet with a picture of lead singer Chester Bennington, who committed suicide on July 20.
