NY AG continues to investigate 'fake' comments on net neutrality

The Federal Communications Commission could vote this week to roll back net neutrality rules.

The inquiry into the fake comments began in the spring, Schneiderman said, amid media reports and research claiming that several people were impersonated by anti-net neutrality commenters and allegations that bots were being used to submit comments opposing net neutrality rules.

In a surprise twist, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced on Monday that FCC officials charged with investigating incidents of fraud have agreed to cooperate with a law enforcement investigation into potentially millions of fake comments submitted using the FCC's website this year.

Look for December's Supermoon this Weekend!
Supermoons of all sizes happen because the moon's orbit is not quite circular and the Earth isn't quite at the center of it. Nichols says that despite the difference between a regular full moon and a supermoon, it is not as grand as it appears.

Without the FCC's help, the New York Attorney General's office recently launched a webpage that allows Americans to search the FCC comment system to find out whether their identities had been stolen. "But the FCC is on course to eliminate net neutrality guided by a record corrupted by hundreds of thousands of filings with stolen identities, close to half a million comments from Russian e-mail addresses, and an alleged distributed denial of service attack", said FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel. Verizon has been a proponent of the FCC's move to repeal net neutrality, and new FCC chairman Ajit Pai is a former Verizon lawyer, so protesting Verizon stores makes about as much sense as anything else.

"This is unacceptable", Rosenworcel, who supports the net neutrality rules, said on Monday. Between June and November, Schneiderman's office requested logs and "other records" from the FCC nine times, but has received "no substantive response to our investigative requests".

The Attorney General's Office has been investigating the cases for six months.

"The FCC needs to help with state investigations". While Pai contends the regulations were hurting ISPs, opponents say it crucially prevented them from imposing restrictive measures such as speed throttling or content preference.

"Without additional information about the alleged anomalies surrounding the public records, the FCC can not conduct a thorough and fair evaluation of the public's view on this topic, and should not move forward with a vote on December 14, 2017".

Twenty-eight USA senators, including Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, also sent a letter to Pai Monday urging him to postpone the vote in light of the investigation. An FCC spokesperson previously dismissed the complaints as "nothing more than a transparent attempt by a partisan supporter of the Obama Administration's heavy-handed internet regulations to gain publicity for himself".

Delhi tops crime chart among metro cities
Overall, rape cases saw an increase of 12.4 percent from 34,651 cases in the country in 2015 to 38,947 in 2016. Among the other states, Uttar Pradesh (UP) recorded the highest number of serious offences like murder.

Based on Schneiderman's investigation, residents of California, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas may have also had their personal information used to submit comments on net neutrality, Rosenworcel said.
