Missing 3-Year-Old North Carolina Girl Believed Dead; Mother's Boyfriend Arrested

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office posted on social media early Saturday morning that they have arrested 32-year-old Earl Kimrey for the disappearance and possible death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods.

It has been five days since the little girl vanished from her home in the dead of night.

Authorities say the man charged in the disappearance of a young North Carolina girl is the boyfriend of the child's mother. On Thursday, Miller called on civilians to join law enforcement in the land and air search for 3-year-old Mariah Woods.

The sheriff said Wilmington Police Department officers and e New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies were searching on horseback, and boats from the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries were in on the search.

Kimrey is charged with concealing death, obstruction of justice, second degree burglary, felony larceny and posession of stolen property.

Mariah was last seen Sunday night when her mother, Kristy Woods, put the girl to bed, according to the sheriff's officeh.

The arrest warrant said Kimrey obstructed justice by "removing Mariah Woods' body from the scene of her death, and did hide (the) death and body, knowing that (she) died from unnatural causes". Deputies did not release any details on how she may have died.

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said that volunteers came from as far away as Raleigh, which is 120 miles southeast of Jacksonville. He is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1,010,000 bond. The search for Mariah entered a fifth day Friday. "All with one mission: to help us find Mariah".

"Allow us to review it to determine if it is of investigative value", FBI agent Stanley Meador said.

A statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Friday's initial search finished more quickly than anticipated because of the number of people who turned out.

Records reportedly show that Kimrey broke into a home and stole two dressers around the time Woods disappeared, according to WNCN. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday.

"The focus of this investigation has changed from a missing child to homicide case", Meador added.
