Democrats skip Donald Trump meeting, raising risk of government shutdown

Schumer and Pelosi said they would meet with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) instead. Mr. Trump struck a fiscal deal with Mr. Schumer and Ms. Pelosi in September, taking Republicans by surprise.

The White House responded by canceling its daily press briefing at the last minute and having President Trump address pool reporters with some vaguely reassuring promises to "handle" Pyongyang's nuclear threat before bitching about Democratic leadership. "I don't see a deal!" he said.

Trump's comments highlight the sticking points between Democrats and Republicans as the December 8 deadline to avert a government shutdown looms.

The move is also likely to be stalled by several pressing policy issues, including Trump's tax cut proposal, ongoing efforts to end Obamacare and immigration reform.

But the president's extraneous tweets and quips have diverted attention from Trump's agenda at a time of maximum effect for his tax proposal and with a series of looming budget deadlines and other priorities in Congress. Wednesday's tweets came hours before Trump was departing for Missouri to rally support for his tax plan in the Senate.

Netflix renews 'Stranger Things' for third season
The good news is that a Season 3 is coming, but, of course, we're going to have to wait a little while for it. STRANGER THINGS 2: Ladies and gentlemen, that's how you do it: no bullshit, balls to the wall entertainment.

"The president's invitation to the Democrat leaders still stands and he encourages them to put aside their pettiness, stop the political grandstanding, show up and get to work", Sanders said. Will they vote for a spending bill they don't like? GOP leaders hope to have the full Senate take it up later this week.

Trump said that he had "somewhat of a lovefest" meeting with Republican leaders about the issues facing Congress at the end of the year.

Trump is still looking for a big legislative victory in Congress and has pinned much on the tax bill being ready before a hoped-for vote later this week.

So what do Schumer and Pelosi have to lose by going to the mat against President Trump on this issue?

Trump has long mocked Warren's claims about being part Native American, which first surfaced during her 2012 Senate race against Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Bob Corker of Tennessee.

Israeli Retaliatory Strikes Hit Hamas Posts In Gaza
The IDF claims it is retaliation for a mortar shelling of an Israeli outpost by another militant group. In late October, the IDF blew up a tunnel stretching from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory.

Democrats complained they were disappointed by the president's statement on Twitter suggesting that it would be hard to reach a deal with Democrats, prompting them to cancel the meeting.

Trump said he "would absolutely blame the Democrats" if there is a government shutdown next week.

But Trump went on to criticize them on immigration, crime and taxes, tweeting, "I don't see a deal!"

"What we do now is return to our Republican colleagues and say, 'Is this the direction you want to take our government at the end of the year?'" said Representative Joseph Crowley of NY, a member of the Democratic leadership. Democrats want certain guarantees in any deal, including protections for unauthorized immigrants brought to the United States as children and restored funding for CHIP, the children's health insurance program.

Congress is allowed under current budget spending rules to spend no more than $549 billion (€490 billion) on defense programs and $516 billion on non-defense programs in 2018.

White House Considers Replacing Tillerson as Secretary of State
Bob Corker (R-TN), that Trump has been damaging Tillerson's efforts and undercutting him at seemingly every opportunity. Tensions have also run high between Tillerson and veteran diplomats who oppose his proposed staff and budget cuts.
