Woodson said she works long hours in Strasburg at the Hotel Strasburg and her parents live in Fairfax.

"It's good for them to do this every year", Kuhn said. "Partly because we just want to help serve the community and also it is just the two of us and it is a lot to make a big meal just for the two of us, so it kind of makes more sense we come here".

One guest, Shirley Hancock, said the turnout was astounding.

"Someone told me recently that, it was the funnest Thanksgiving he's ever been at", she said.

"It's like a family reunion", he said.

One of those friends said she would have had a very different Thanksgiving if it were not for the dinner.

"This is my first year", Rodriguez said. "You can see the people and know that you're helping these people to avoid loneliness and segregation".

On Thursday, with the help of volunteers from St. Joseph, the Knights of Columbus and Concordia Lutheran Church, more than 700 meals were made and served to those in need throughout Newton, Conover and Claremont.

The CDT began nine years ago, when friends and neighbors Ron Thompson and Lee Hammett, wanted to help to feed community members in need. "It's a good feeling and I will be back next year, for sure", he said. "The other 10 come from other people in the community that cook them in their own kitchen". She said it's all made possible thanks to almost 300 volunteers, including Tony McCluney, who has been volunteering since 1999.

"This tradition we've formed extends far beyond serving the community".
