US Expels Cuban Diplomats From Embassy In Washington

The US administration is worrying about its diplomatic staff in Cuba, the mysterious "sonic attacks" became a reason for an expelling of 15 Cuban diplomats from Washington.

While Washington hasn't blamed Cuba for what it calls "attacks" that sickened the Americans in Havana, officials said the Cuban government failed to protect the US contingent and that the administration wants assurances that the attacks have been stopped.

"I think the conversations have focused on the Cuban government's responsibility to ensure the safety and well being of diplomatic personnel that they host in their country, " the officials said.

Cuba has said that the USA withdrawal of its diplomatic personnel is a "hasty decision" that will affect bilateral relations. Last week, the State Department warned Americans to stay away from Cuba and ordered more than half the embassy staff to leave indefinitely. The US said it made the decision after Havana failed to protect US diplomats from the attacks.

Havana blasted the US order, calling it "reckless" and "hasty". The reduction in U.S. staff in Havana means visa processing there has been suspended indefinitely. That has raised concerns among investigators that the attacks may be getting more sophisticated and harder to detect, individuals briefed on the investigation said.

We need to tell Cuba to close its embassy and get the hell out of our country, and don't try to come back until it renounces communism and embraces free elections, free markets and free people.

The sonic attacks were a convenient pretext for President Trump to begin to dismantle the course of normalization of relations between the two countries that the Obama administration set in motion, Pertierra explained. Cuba described his comments as "unacceptable and meddling". Ties between the USA and Cuba were restored under President Barack Obama in 2014 after more than half a century.

Earlier last week, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez to discuss the incidents.

The U.S.is expelling 15 Cuban diplomats. Cuba has vociferously denied any responsibility for the attacks and even allowed the Federal Bureau of Investigation to come investigate.

Symptoms of these mysterious attacks have included hearing loss, dizziness and cognitive issues.

Although the United States does not blame Cuba for what the State Department considers "specific attacks", the Trump Administration wants to make it clear that it is Cuba' responsibility to take more actions to shield the USA personnel from the unexplained injuries.

But, the official said, Cuba must be held accountable for protecting American diplomats.
