Puerto Rico: Children Suffering Most in Aftermath of Maria

The hospital is hosting a community relief drive until 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Orlando Church. "We will not forget Puerto Rico", says the Volunteer Ministers International Coordinator. "The need is unimaginable, and as Central Floridians we need to do all we can to help our brothers and sisters on the island", said Daryl Tol, president and CEO of Florida Hospital and Central Florida Division - Adventist Health System.

Volunteers can be heard cheering and clapping as the supplies come in. "We will continue to deploy help as needed that has been requested by the Governor of Puerto Rico". After unloading the cars, they organize the donations, which range from cans of food and baby diapers, to toiletries and cases of water.

"We want them to know our door is open and all of us at Eastern Florida are ready to help them anyway we can".

Alicea said the aid will go to the poorest people on the island who are still living without the basic needs.

Save the Children has reported that there are "children's spaces" being constructed inside of shelters that will give children a sense of normalcy while they wait to return to school. The companies said operations were also hampered because workers couldn't get to factories and they were dealing with damage to their homes.

In less than two weeks, Medina and the rest of North Carolina for Puerto Rico collected more all of the donations.
