Mother who ignored deal to vaccinate son loses primary custody

Rebecca Bredow was last week sentenced for contempt of court almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her nine-year-old son vaccinated.

"It's been a rough few days to say the least", she added.

Mr Horne was granted joint custody of the boy on Ms Bredow's release earlier this week.

Oakland County Judge Karen McDonald said even though Bredow was the primary caregiver, "dad gets a say".

A USA mum jailed for defying a court order to vaccinate her young son says she's outraged he's been given several immunisations while she's been locked away.

After failing to follow through with the promise, an Oakland County judge last week sentenced her to five days in prison for contempt of court.

Bredow said her 9-year-old son's understanding of the situation is limited. "I was trying to stand up for what I believed in, and it was worth it for me to try and take the risk, because I was trying to stop the vaccinations from happening".

"I am an educated vaccine-choice mother and I have signed vaccine waivers and have been fully compliant with all state laws for both of my children for every school year", Bredow said before the sentencing hearing last week.

Bredow said it was "against her beliefs" to vaccinate her children.

Court documents obtained by ABC News state that a court first asked Bredow to get immunizations for her son in November 2016, but state that as of September 2017, the child had not been vaccinated.

"I understand you love your children".
