Las Vegas Shooter Booked Into A Hotel Room Overlooking Another Festival

One of Chicago's historic hotels on South Michigan Ave. sits directly across Grant Park where the music festival is held every early August.

TMZ is reporting that Paddock booked two hotel rooms at the Blackstone Hotel across the street and specifically requested that the rooms face the park.

The Chicago Police Department said in a statement issued Thursday that it was aware of the media report about the Blackstone Hotel booking during Lollapalooza and is tightening security plans for upcoming major events happening in Chicago including the Chicago Marathon this Sunday. The hotel overlooks the main stage and entrance, but Paddock allegedly never showed up.

At a Friday afternoon press conference, investigators said they were looking into whether he had tried to attack other similar events. The festival regularly attracts huge crowds, sometimes drawing as many as 100,000 people on each of its four days, and celebrities are regularly spotted among the concertgoers.

Authorities discovered Paddock's interest in the two cities by examining his communications and electronic equipment, NBC News said.

"He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something awful like this was going to happen", Danley said in a statement read by her attorney, Matthew Lombard.

Investigators trying to establish the motive for the attack have had little more to chase than hints and shadows.

County Clark Sheriff Joe Lombardo said he believed Paddock had an exit plan, but it was so elaborate he would have had to be a "superhero" to pull it off alone.
