Joel Embiid's Contract Will Be All About The Details

Joel Embiid's Contract Will Be All About The Details

Embiid, dealing with a plethroa of injuries, has played a grand total of 31 games through his first three seasons in the league. He was arguably the best prospect, if not the best player, in the 2014 NBA Draft that contained the likes of Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins.

Given the nature of the protections, the fact that only the specific foot and back injuries can trigger the Sixers' escape hatches, and the likelihood that it would take something downright apocalyptic to make general manager Bryan Colangelo want to waive the franchise's hoped-for focal point, the new information suggests that it's pretty likely the 76ers will wind up paying the full five-year freight on Embiid's deal. "I am in an incredible position", Embiid said.

Embiid is expected to be ready to play for the Sixers on opening night on October 18 against Washington, but could initially face minute restrictions as part of the rehab process on his knee.

What's more, if Embiid played a minimum of 1,650 regular-season minutes in three consecutive years during the extension, or three out of four including the 2017-18 season, those benchmarks would eliminate the possibility of a reduction in the contract, league sources said. There's a steep learning curve that comes with handling the ball against NBA defenses, and even Fultz, who was projected as one of the most polished assets since Kyrie Irving, will need to get a feel for the pace of professional basketball.

If O'Gorman hadn't been coming home from work to wake her family, "we would have been in the house trapped", she said. The rapidly moving Atlas Peak fire was visible throughout Napa Valley and heavy smoke was draping over the region.

The 76ers apparently decided Embiid's on- and off-court pros outweighed the cons of his health concerns. He also grabbed almost eight rebounds in 25.4 minutes per contest, averaged 2.5 blocks, and shot 36.7 percent from three, stretching defenses with his range, driving to the hole at will, and getting to the line, averaging almost eight free throw attempts per game last season.

Continuing down the road of hypotheticals, the impact of Embiid on the court for the Sixers last season was a difference of almost 30 calculated wins.

Philadelphia is taking a risk by giving Embiid a giant contract, but the payoff is well worth the risks. "A lot of people don't have a lot of stuff".

What Embiid was able to display in such a small sample size, and after sitting out for over two years, is nothing short of impressive. "When you look at his body of work ... he's really only been playing basketball for six years, he's just scratching the surface".

The first booking of the game came in the ninth minute, when Simeon Slavchev was yellow carded for pulling back Kylian Mbappé. The hard work was done and all that remained in the second half was to see how many goals Switzerland could pile up.

Simmons was asked by a reporter why Embiid deserves all that money. But if he can't stay healthy, the Sixers may come to regret this decision.

This new deal appears to have many complex layers, and surely some will trickle out over time.

Brown has continuously referred to Embiid as a game-changer. But the potential that Embiid exudes on the court, and the idea that he represents off of it is worth shooting the shot for the Philadelphia 76ers.
