Wisconsin No. 9 in latest AP Poll Top 25

MI defeated Florida in its opener to rise in the rankings.

Week 1 of the season was absolutely packed with high-scoring contests and highly competitive non-conference games between numerous AP Top 25 teams, an entertaining byproduct of college football's new merit-based playoff system. 1 team again and garnered all but one first-place vote, the lone exception going to No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes.

This compares to a year ago, when big wins by Texas (over Notre Dame) and Wisconsin (over LSU) vaulted them from unranked to high in the polls. As in the coaches' poll, UF and FSU (10th in the media poll) are the only ranked teams with a loss. Tennessee stayed put in the AP but are up three spots in the Coaches Poll. Florida State fell seven spots in the AP and six in the Coaches Poll.

American John Isner, the 10th seed, will face No. 23 Mischa Zverev on Friday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Venus Williams made short work of her third-round opponent and is into the Round of 16 at the U.S.

USF is 21 and Notre Dame 24 in the Associated Press poll. Washington State was unranked last week and now sit at No. 22 in the Coaches Poll. The Mountaineers lost to Virginia Tech in one of the better games of the weekend.

Utah, UCLA, Colorado, Maryland, Oregon, Arkansas, South Carolina and Boise State are pushing for rankings.
