Seattle's Gay Democratic Mayor Resigns After 5th Sexual Abuse Allegation

A fifth man has come forward accusing the mayor of sexual abuse. Dyer claimed he would try to avoid being molested by pretending to sleep-which didn't stop Murray from abusing him.

Murray, who was elected mayor in 2013 after having been Washington State's first openly gay legislator, had already decided not to seek reelection in light of the earlier allegations.

In a written statement that was issued to the press after he resigned, Murray denied any wrongdoing and said he was resigning to prevent his personal issues from interfering with the service delivery of the city government to the public.

Seattle City Council president Bruce Harrell will assume the position of mayor, and has five days from the start to decide whether to complete Murray's term.

Kremlin brands Saakashvili's 'illegal border crossing' as political circus
Kiev is "panicking", Saakashvili said, adding that he did "not want to overthrow President Poroshenko" but just defend his rights. Now, Saakashvili wants to return to challenge that decision in court and get back into politics.

In the election, Seattle voters are choosing between former U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan and planner Cary Moon, and the victor will take over the mayor's office after the election results are certified November 28.

The most recent abuse allegations against Murray came from a man claiming to be Murray's cousin. Filed a tort claim against the city of Seattle in July 2017.

"I have no assets, I have no investments and if I lose, everything I have done, everything I have worked for, the most important thing to me - my integrity - it'll be gone", Murray said in an interview with Brandi Kruse at Q13 in April. I have always wished him well as mayor even when I disagreed with his policies. This morning it was clear to me that he could no longer lead as mayor and I called on him to resign.

The 62-year-old Murray denied the allegations in a statement, but said that he will leave office effective Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Multnomah County prosecutor however said at the time that they were unsure they could meet the high legal standard to prove the accusations, but did not say he was innocent.

The mayor is now facing a lawsuit filed by Delvonn Heckard, a 46-year-old man who alleges Murray molested him in the 1980s when he was a troubled, drug-addicted teen.

"I'm sad", he said.

"I think the focus has to be on moving forward".

As mayor, he pushed to raise the city's minimum hourly wage to $15.
