"We share your concerns about the extremist violence in Rakhine state and violence against security forces and how innocent lives have been lost", Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a joint address to the media along with Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi following delegation-level talks between the two sides here.

Some 125,00 Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar's Rakhine state since violence intensified on August 25, according to the latest United Nations figures.

The Myanmar's president Htin Kyaw and Suu Kyi had visited India previous year.

Appreciating India's development partnership with Myanmar in the areas of health, education and research, he said: "In this connection, the Myanmar Institute of Information Technology and Advanced Centre for Agricultural Research deserve special mention".

Ms Suu Kyi, in her remarks, thanked India for taking a strong stand on the terror threat that Myanmar faced recently.

This is Modi's first tour to Myanmar for bilateral talks, though the PM had in 2015 travelled to the country for India-ASEAN Summit. "They also kept in touch with their roots".

She said that together India and Myanmar can ensure that terrorism is not allowed to take root on their soil or on the soil of neighbouring countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Myanmar's state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, holding discussion on wide-ranging topics, including the violence in the Rakhine state.

The project is created to link Sittwe port in Myanmar, which India helped develop, with the the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram.
