Jamaal Lascelles heads Newcastle past Swansea with Benítez convalescing

Swansea City return to Premier League action after the worldwide break with a feisty contest against Newcastle United on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium.

Lascelles powered home a header from Matt Ritchie's corner as the Magpies climbed into the top half of the Premier League table.

The 57-year-old Spaniard had an operation on Monday to address an infection resulting from an earlier hernia operation and was unable to recover in time to travel with his squad.

Deadline-day signings Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony are set to make their Swansea debuts at home to Newcastle on Sunday after a busy summer of transfer activity at the Liberty Stadium. I think with the players they've got they will be doing well to stay out of the relegation fight.

Second-half transformation not enough as Huskers fall in Oregon
The Ducks needed only three plays to score, with Herbert hitting Dillon Mitchell on a 17-yard touchdown pass for a 42-14 lead. OR improves to 2-0 this season with a victory against Nebraska at Autzen Stadium. "We just have to push through next time".

Newcastle have failed to score in three of their last four trips to the Liberty Stadium but five of the last six games between these two sides have gone Over 2.5 goals.

"Although the margin of the defeat is small I am more disappointed with our performance". The actual game, what I saw was nothing like I expected.

Paul Clement is still yet to lose back to back home games as a manager.

"It was very frustrating and I'm not quite sure why it turned out like that, " said Swansea head coach Paul Clement.

"That's not good enough and I take responsibility for that performance".

"We made too many mistakes, we gave the ball away too often".

"We are very glad because we planned the game to try and win three points and we did it, " Moreno said. "They're a good, well-organised side but we should have done better, there's no question about that". Even right up to the end, where we did continue to push, we couldn't get a decent ball into the box.

Newcastle secured their first win of the season before the worldwide break by beating West Ham 3-0, but boss Rafael Benitez is likely to be disappointed that he was not able to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window.
