Hurricane Jose Inches Closer to Eastern Seaboard

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Lee weakened into a tropical depression far out in the Atlantic while Otis strengthened into a hurricane out in the Pacific.

The center added that tropical storm watches were possible for the U.S. East Coast later in the day and advised people from North Carolina to New England to monitor Jose's progress.

The storm, which is now 640 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, is moving northwest at 10 mph.

Jose re-strengthened from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane this afternoon and could potentially bring Nor'easter-like conditions to NY and Boston next week.

New Zealand Starts Counting Votes in Too-Close-To-Call Election
No party has claimed a majority government in New Zealand's 120-seat parliament since proportional voting was adopted in 1996. Prime Minister Bill English's National Party won 46 percent of the vote, according to the electoral commission on Sunday.

Meanwhile, long-lived Hurricane Jose was moving northward off the US Atlantic Seaboard, kicking up risky surf and rip currents.

In the Caribbean, Maria is growing in power and will hit some of the islands wrecked by Irma about two weeks ago, along with others.

Maria is now expected to bring tropical storm conditions to parts of the Leeward Islands on Monday, with hurricane conditions possible by Monday night or Tuesday.

St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Dominica have also been put on watch. The forecast gives about a 1-in-4 chance of seeing tropical-storm-force winds - more than 39 miles per hour - in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Currently, Maria is approximately 590 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, and is approaching the region at a speed of 19 mph, boasting wind speeds of up to 50 mph. Impacts along the USA mainland are too early to talk about - but this is a storm we will most certainly need to watch, especially as it nears closer to the east coast in the coming 8-10 days.

A fall trough moving across the USA, he said, could also strengthen a ridge in the northeast, preventing the storm from moving out to sea.

Sushma Swaraj Blasts Pakistan at the United Nations
She reminded Pakistan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's offer of a "hand of peace and friendship" immediately after taking office. Swaraj said Pakistan PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi levelled various allegations on India, and the world thought "look who is talking".

If the storm tracks southeast of Nantucket, Jose will act like a fall nor'easter, with an impact focused mainly on the Cape and Islands.

Tropical storm watches have already been put in effect for an area including Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

We are now watching three named tropical systems in the Atlantic.

The US National Hurricane Center said Maria was likely to grow into a hurricane on Sunday and swell into major hurricane status by midweek as it heads for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Lee isn't expected to near Caribbean waters until late next week, and it's likely the system won't threaten land, forecasters said.

Barzani: We are ready for dialogue, but after Kurdish referendum
