Google Fires The Writer Of Anti-Diverse Memo

Google has terminated an employee who wrote a controversial internal memo that asserted that women's under-representation in technology jobs and leadership positions was a outcome of biological factors and not ostensibly because of gender discrimination.

The Times published another excerpt from Pichai's email where he asserted "our co-workers shouldn't have to worry that each time they open their mouths to speak in a meeting, they must prove that they are not like the memo states, being "agreeable" rather than 'assertive, ' showing a 'lower stress tolerance, ' or being 'neurotic'".

Last Friday, a 3,300-word memo penned by Google engineer James Damore went viral among employees.

Damore, worked at Google since December 2013, told Bloomberg Television that he wrote the document for Google employees because he believed a "lack of ideological diversity has hurt our [Google-made] products".

Up until Newcastle's victory over Wolfsburg last week, Colback has played an active role in Newcastle's pre- season. I try to do the best every training (session) and every game and to prepare myself.

Huppke reminded the memo's author that free speech comes with consequences, and he urged him to try to develop more empathy - and the columnist said he deserved to be fired even if he hadn't violated any company policies.

Damore's anti-diversity memo led many employees to raise questions, and those questions were leaked outside the company, further raising concerns about online harassment.

"There was a lot of just shaming".

In a memo sent late on Thursday, Sundar Pichai informed all 60,000 employees at the Mountain View campus that they wouldn't be meeting in the afternoon over some concerns voiced by members of the community.

"We had hoped to have a frank, open discussion today as we always do to bring us together and move forward", wrote Pichai.

Pichai said in an email to staff that several Google employees became fearful for their safety and grew concerned about being outed for speaking up at the town hall.

At the coding event on Thursday, Pichai gave a strong defence of the role of women in tech. I think as Google we are really proud to host the event, but I really want to thank ... the organizers and the mentors who spent hundreds of hours to get the teams ready for today. "So it's really important that more women and girls have the opportunity to participate in technology, to learn how to code, create, and innovate", he added.
