Facebook Continues Fake News Fight

The company said it has created a software algorithm to point out possible suspicious stories and direct them to third-party fact checkers.

Facebook has publicly pledged to do more to combat fake news after it was heavily criticised following the U.S. presidential election a year ago, when some commentators suggested pro-Donald Trump stories flooding the site may have influenced the result, something founder Mark Zuckerberg strongly hit back against.

Facebook is increasing its efforts to stop fake news in its tracks by sending more potential hoax stories to third-party fact checkers. If an article has been reviewed by fact checkers, we may show the fact checking stories below the original post.

Once setup is complete, a launchpad will appear on the screen where users can access the mouse, keyboard, text-to-speech feature. Those who want to test-out the functionality will need a compatible eye tracker, like the Tobii Eye Tracker 4C .

The feature is now being more broadly rolled out within the United States and will be extended to Germany, France and the Netherlands.

Facebook began rolling out a new initiative to show up fake news that automatically serves up related articles and links from reliable sources for potentially hoaxed stories.
