Disney turns to AR to sell 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' toys

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is still a few months away from hitting theaters, but BB-8-happy fans are about to get a glimpse at a new character as a part of a three-day marketing rollout of toys and products inspired by the film.

Google Partners with Walmart for Voice Shopping
Walmart is integrating its Easy Reorder feature - which has data on both store and online purchases - into Google Express . That includes the core $179 Echo as well as the less expensive and smaller Echo Dot and the portable Amazon Tap.

And, when you share photos and video featuring the characters in the stores on Twitter or Instagram (using the #FindtheForce and #Sweepstakes hashtags), you can win a chance to go to the premiere of The Last Jedi in December. A new line of Star Wars: The Last Jedi merchandise comes out September 1 and, perhaps more exciting, Disney and Lucasfilm are organizing a global augmented reality treasure hunt to "unite fans around the world in the battle against the dark side" as they shop. The character will appear on the iPhone screen in AR, looking as if it's in the same room, and you can take photos and videos of it before sharing on social media if you choose. Using the Star Wars app they can then scan those "Find the Force" graphics, which will unlock characters from the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi and digital rewards.

WWE Smackdown: AJ Styles defends USA title against Kevin Owens
Wanting to team up with Gable, Daniel Bryan announced that the new team would have their first match next week on Smackdown LIVE. Again it was the wrong place and wrong time for the referee, as he hit out of the ring as Owens booted Styles into McMahon.

Scanning the logo with their phone unlocks the AR character. Five characters will be released per day in most stores, with 15 total arriving during the three-day event. The app encourages social-media sharing of your character experiences, with the big carrot urging that you share being a sweepstakes contest that closes September 3. If you plan to participate in Find the Force, it's best to download the Star Wars app now and launch the feature ahead of time, as it requires a substantial in-app download before you're up and running.
