Two men hospitalised after being sprayed with acid in London

Two young men were taken to an east London hospital Tuesday after a "suspected noxious substance" was thrown at them, Metropolitan Police said.

He said: "At the moment they've gone off to the Royal London Hospital so we're not too sure about their injuries".

Images from the scene show two men with their shirts off having water poured over their faces.

The problem has become so common that Met police cars will now carry five-litre bottles of water to help them respond to incidents involving noxious substances.

A police officer at the scene said the liquid thrown over the men was bleach. The attack was the first of five in a single evening. One of the five victims was described as being left with "life-changing" facial injuries.
