Among them are James Quarles and Jeannie Rhee, both of whom Mueller brought over from his old firm, WilmerHale. This latest blast nearly suggests that Rosenstein told Trump to fire Comey because of Russian Federation, not because of the prior Clinton investigation debacle.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the November election in his favor.

The Washington Post is reporting that the special counsel led by former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Muller is now looking into whether Mr Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

The focus on Rosenstein sharpened Friday because the President attacked the deputy attorney general in a tweet, blaming him for what he terms a "witch hunt".

The Washington Post also claims that right after Comey gave this document to Mueller, Mr. Mueller then opened an investigation of President Trump on whether of not he obstructed justice in firing James Comey. Coats and Rogers have testified that they were not pressured by the Trump administration.

It's easier said than done, obviously, but that's the goal. "And we've witnessed his greatness and how lopsided it made things". And he looks forward to the nice payday. "It would mean everything". "We had some struggles, you know", Durant said .

However, there has been no previous indication Mueller was involved in the decision.

All investigations may ultimately prove no wrongdoing.

Trump took to his Twitter account Thursday morning to denounce the report.

Trump tweeted on Thursday: "They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story".

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and that anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired", Feinstein said. "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!.MAGA".

All the stories about Mueller investigating Trump for possible obstruction cited anonymous sources. CNN further urged the agency to release the material "without further delay".

Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen has hired Washington, D.C. -based counsel.

The President's legal team - slammed the leak of the story - as outrageous and illegal. It was not clear whether Trump's tweet was referring to Rosenstein or Mueller, but most news organizations identified the former as Trump's target.

A day after press reports of new revelations in the Russian Federation investigation, the Justice Department warned Americans in an official statement to be skeptical of reports that rely on information from anonymous sources. He, however, said that whatever Trump did was "a very disturbing thing, very concerning".

President Donald Trump has just officially admitted he is under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice.
