China asks Pak, Afghan to meet halfway to improve ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday that Pakistan has the capability to bring stability to the region, adding that in order to put that thought to fruition a meeting should be held of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan.

According to the statement, Wang assured the Afghan foreign minister that China will support the Kabul Process so as to make the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process a success. "As Afghanistan and Pakistan's mutual friend, China encourages them to establish a crisis prevention and management mechanism as soon as possible, to properly deal with any kind of sudden occurrence", Wang said.

Prior to his Pakistan's visit, the Chinese foreign minister also visited Kabul where he met his Afghan Counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani today.

Wang's visit is a follow-up to the discussions the Chinese leadership had with Pakistani and Afghan leaders on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit earlier this month on counter-terrorism cooperation and revival of the Afghan peace process.
